Swedish pop singer Zara Larsson is using her recent live performances to showcase a series of highly creative and maximalist makeup designs, including an intricate swan painted across her eyelids.
Larsson, known for international hit songs such as Lush Life and Symphony, has been turning her face into a canvas for detailed artwork rather than sticking to conventional stage beauty looks.
The latest striking design was debuted during her appearance at the Superbloom Festival, an annual music and arts event held in Munich, Bavaria.
Her makeup artist, Sophia Sinot, created a swan motif that stretched entirely across the singer's upper face. The design utilised stark white makeup from the eyelid up to the eyebrows, extending out towards the temples to recreate the shape of the bird's wings.
An orange touch placed at the inner corner of the eye imitated the swan's beak. Sharp black eyeliner, bold eyelashes and small crystals scattered across her face completed the elaborate artwork.
Marine life and auroras
The Bavarian festival look is only the most recent chapter in a series of elaborate facial designs the singer has worn on stage over the last few weeks, as she ensures her eyes tell a different story each night.
Larsson has previously appeared with stage makeup inspired by the aurora borealis, blending bright green and purple colours across her eyes to mimic the natural light display.
She has also showcased designs based on marine creatures, transforming her eyelids with the shapes of lobsters and fish.
Other recent looks have featured intricate butterflies constructed entirely from crystals, as well as bold animal prints and intensely coloured eyeshadows that cover a much larger area of the face than standard makeup application.
Return to maximalism
The singer's bold aesthetic marks a sharp departure from the minimalist beauty trends that have dominated the industry for years, which typically aimed to make the wearer look as though they were not wearing any cosmetics at all.
Instead, Larsson is returning to the idea of makeup as a tool for dramatic transformation and capturing attention.
The stage looks created by Larsson and Sinot have already begun to influence wider beauty trends online. Their creative approach has inspired a wave of new video tutorials on the social media platform TikTok, with users particularly focusing on recreating the bright eyeshadow styles and rhinestone applications.
While the elaborate swan and lobster designs may not translate to everyday office wear, the Swedish singer's performances suggest a growing interest in exaggerating makeup and experimenting with striking colours once again.
