Actress Paula Echevarría marked her 49th birthday on August 7 without her traditional Marbella celebration following the death of her father, Luis Ángel Echevarría.
Her father died at the age of 76 on July 30 at Cabueñes Hospital in Gijón. Following his death, Echevarría felt that one of the main pillars of her life had broken down, choosing to spend her birthday surrounded by her family instead of holding a public event.
Cancellation of Marbella birthday tradition
Echevarría traditionally held her birthday celebration at the Marbella quarry, the venue for the Starlite Festival. Her annual gathering brought together her female friends, her parents, and her children for the summer occasion.
This year, Echevarría canceled all celebrations to seek refuge in her hometown of Candás, in Asturias. She spent the day with her mother, her brother, former footballer Miguel Torres, and her children during a difficult summer for the family.
Tribute to Luis Ángel Echevarría
From Candás, Echevarría published a message on social media that served as an improvised tribute to her father. The post accompanied a childhood photograph taken from her personal album.
Echevarría stated that for 48 years, her father had always kissed, greeted, messaged, or called her at exactly 7 p.m., the hour she was born. He never contacted her before that exact time, regardless of where he was located.
She wrote that she would pay close attention to receive a signal from him this year, expressing confidence that he would find a way to reach her. She acknowledged that turning 49 was painful, but noted that looking past her grief reminded her of the support from her mother, children, partner, brother, nieces, sister-in-law, uncles, aunts, and friends.
Echevarría expressed gratitude for the health of her family and the support they received from others. She added that she was thankful for having had the best father for 49 years and stated she had a life ahead to live and enjoy.
Support from Miguel Torres and Daniella
Miguel Torres offered his support during her birthday, sharing a message wishing her peace, strength, beautiful moments, and many smiles. He added that whatever happened, she would always have his hand, his embrace, and all his love.
Her daughter, Daniella, also shared a message calling Echevarría her favorite person. She thanked her mother for being her best friend and posted a collage of photographs highlighting their shared memories.
