Singer Phoebe Bridgers has celebrated securing her first solo UK number one album from a hospital bed after undergoing surgery for appendicitis.

The 32-year-old artist was rushed to hospital on her birthday on Monday, just days after releasing her third studio album, Lost Weekend, on August 14.

Bridgers shared a photo on Instagram showing herself resting in bed while proudly clutching her Official Albums Chart number one trophy. Captioning the photograph, she wrote: "Album is number one in the UK and I exploded."

Fans quickly flooded the comment section with messages of support, wishing the musician a speedy recovery. Appendicitis occurs when the appendix becomes inflamed and typically requires surgical removal of the organ.

Bridgers is a Californian singer-songwriter known for her acclaimed indie folk sound and her work with the supergroup Boygenius. The Official Albums Chart measures physical sales, digital downloads, and audio streams across the United Kingdom to determine weekly rankings.

Concert postponements and venue reaction

The sudden hospitalization forced the singer to postpone a series of scheduled live performances across England. Bridgers had been due to perform in Kingston on August 19, followed by a show in Brighton on August 20 and a concert in Bristol on August 21.

All three dates have been postponed, with rescheduled dates yet to be announced. Kingston venue Banquet Records, which was hosting the August 19 events, confirmed the cancellation on its Instagram stories.

Addressing fans, Banquet Records posted: "TONIGHT'S PHOEBE BRIDGERS SHOWS ARE OFF. as on her insta story (pictured), Phoebe is unwell - get well soon!! - so the Kingston events will have to move."

The independent record store added: "We of course wish her all the best, and apologise for any disappointment. we're working closely with her global teams, and will update soon as we can." Banquet Records is based in Kingston upon Thames and frequently hosts promotional performances for touring musicians.

Album success and production hiatus

Bridgers released Lost Weekend as her third LP, marking her highest chart achievement in Britain to date. Her previous studio album, Punisher, peaked at number six on the UK chart in 2022. The new 16-track album includes songs such as The Outside, Lost Boys, The Governor's Waltz, and Still Standing.

The star had been scheduled to take to the stage in Kingston on August 19, followed by a performance in Brighton on August 20, but had to cancel

Speaking about her extended hiatus between records, Bridgers admitted that stepping away from recording was difficult. "I mean, I didn't love all parts of being away," she said recently. "I kept booking studio time and then putting it off… and booking studio time and putting it off, and putting it off… I really wanted to be making something."

She explained that her writing process involved taking extended breaks before returning to work. The singer noted that she "just started going in and then taking six months off and then going (back). So this album took forever. Which is great!"

Upcoming tour schedule

Bridgers is scheduled to embark on her 2026 Lost Tour later this year to support the new album. The live tour is set to officially open on September 14 with a performance in Indianapolis, Indiana.
