Prime Video has announced a live-action adaptation of "Please Save My Earth," the cult science fiction manga by Saki Hiwatari, set to premiere in autumn 2027. The series will be a Prime Video original, releasing exclusively in more than 240 countries and territories.

A story of past lives

"Please Save My Earth" follows Arisu Sakaguchi, a high school student who begins experiencing especially vivid dreams in which she lives a previous existence on a lunar base. She soon discovers that several of her classmates share similar memories, prompting her to investigate what really happened in that past life and how it connects to the present.

The story is also shaped by a young neighbor who awakens to a personality from his previous existence, one obsessed with the love he felt for Mokuren. The feelings, secrets and sins of those past lives end up intersecting with the present, revealing an unexpected connection between Arisu and Mokuren that stretches across several generations.

The team behind the series

THE SEVEN will handle production, including visual effects that must recreate the lunar base and sequences set in space. Nana Yamamoto will write the scripts, and Moshimoss will compose the music.

Hiwatari herself reacted to the announcement with some surprise, saying she was truly surprised the story would be adapted as a drama in this era. She added that she had decided to embrace the project with enthusiasm, telling fans to consider it a festival and to enjoy it together.

Manga origins and prior adaptations

The original manga was published between 1986 and 1994 and sold more than 16 million copies. It first appeared in Japan in the magazine Hana to Yume in 1986, arriving in Spain considerably later. Though it never achieved the same popularity as many of its contemporaries, it has since become a cult work, and Panini Manga recently began a new reprint of the series.

Please Save My Earth already had an anime adaptation, produced by Production I.G and originally released as a series of OVAs between 1993 and 1994. The new Prime Video project is set for autumn 2027, though no specific premiere date has been announced yet.
