The former queen consort presided over the opening of the International Congress on Neurodegenerative Diseases at the Virgen de los Reyes Center in the Andalusian capital. Doña Sofía serves as the honorary president of the gathering, which brings together specialists in neurological research.
She arrived at the venue wearing a single-button fuchsia blazer over a white top and wide-leg white trousers cut at the ankle. Instead of traditional heels or pumps, she paired the ensemble with low-profile sports sneakers in a subtle shade between beige and taupe.
Her footwear choice left the simple beige sneakers fully visible, creating a casual yet tailored look suitable for early autumn engagements. She completed the outfit with layered necklaces of varying lengths featuring colorful stones and beads, small hoop earrings, and a brooch pinned to her blazer lapel.

The choice of practical footwear reflects a growing trend in royal fashion toward combining formal tailored jackets with comfortable street shoes. Queen Sofía, who was queen consort of Spain during the reign of her husband King Juan Carlos I from 1975 to 2014, is the mother of the current Spanish monarch, King Felipe VI. Music Therapy and Future Travel
Later on Monday afternoon, Queen Sofía was scheduled to attend a concert titled "Recuerdos al compás" at the Real Alcázar of Seville. The performance promotes flamenco music as an active therapeutic tool for patients living with neurodegenerative diseases.
The event took place inside the historic Real Alcázar, a royal palace complex in Seville known for its Mudéjar architecture and centuries of royal heritage. The concert highlights how cultural traditions can assist in clinical care and memory retention for patients.
Monday marked Queen Sofía's first public engagement since September 9, when she joined King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia in Oslo for the state funeral of King Harald V of Norway. King Harald, who ruled Norway for more than three decades, maintained close ties with the Spanish royal family.
Her schedule will continue later this week with international travel to the United States. On Thursday, she is scheduled to fly to New Orleans, where she will participate in events running through Sunday for the 3rd Symposium "America&Spain250: Spain and the American Revolution along the Mississippi River."
The symposium is organized by the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute and The Historic New Orleans Collection, in collaboration with the Queen Sofía Foundation and the Ramón Areces Foundation. The gathering commemorates Spanish historical contributions to the American Revolution in the Mississippi Valley region.
