Criticism of ‘Beau is afraid’, for and against in the controversy of the month

‘Beau is afraid’, the new Ari Aster film starring Joaquin Phoenix, stars in our controversy of the month, whose side are you on?

    In favor, by Jordi Picatoste

A source of wonder and exhilaration, “Beau Is Afraid” is excellent news for those disappointed by the alarming predictability of “Midsommar.” In his third film, Aster recovers the surprising creativity of ‘Hereditary’ and offers us an amazing altarpiece of different styles in the form of a tragicomic odyssey of a protagonist harassed by his mother from the cradle.

The worst: Aster’s ego inflates the footage up to three hours.

Among other textures, Aster melds with the Aronofsky of ‘Mother!’, ushering us into a stinking urban garden of delights and offering us a wacky update on the single-family environments Douglas Sirk taught us to be wary of. Irreverent and poignant, relentless and restless.

    Against, by Fausto Fernández

179 minutes of absolutely nothing, the cenotaph that Ari Aster has erected for himself does not last three hours because it leaves the viewer that extra minute to become aware that they have been fooled.

The best: Nathan Lane knowing that everything is a joke of balance.

Curious that someone obsessed with decapitating women who adore a billy goat with a flaccid penis (‘Hereditary’) and destroying skulls like poached watermelons (‘Midsommar’) opens heads, Beau’s main character the first, which are empty. empty is this pedantic attempt to be charlie kaufmana fearful, babbling misogynistic tapestry, and Woody Allen’s ‘Take the money and run,’ with hipster myxomatosis.
