Rock in Rio 2026 wraps up this weekend in Rio de Janeiro, and organizers have confirmed there will be no festival in 2027. The next Brazilian edition is expected only in 2028.
Rock in Rio runs on a biennial schedule, taking place every two years, so skipping 2027 follows the festival's usual pattern. Organizers have not yet released any details for the 2028 edition, including which bands will perform or which days the shows will take place.
Lisbon Edition Already Has Dates
While the Brazilian leg of the festival has no confirmed schedule yet, the Portuguese edition of Rock in Rio, held in Lisbon, has already updated its calendar. The Lisbon festival runs the same year as the Brazilian edition, and its 2028 dates have been set for June 17, 18, 24 and 25.
The Town Fills the Gap in 2027
With no Rock in Rio in Brazil next year, fans will have the option of attending The Town instead. The Town was created by Roberto Medina, the same promoter who launched Rock in Rio more than 40 years ago.
The Town is held at the Autódromo de Interlagos in São Paulo and will reach its third edition in 2027, with shows scheduled across five days: September 4, 5, 6, 11 and 12. Organizers have not yet released the lineup or opened ticket sales for the event.
Rock in Rio has become one of Brazil's best known music festivals since it began, expanding over the years to host editions in other countries, including Portugal. The Town, a newer addition to Medina's portfolio of festivals, has quickly established itself as a major fixture on the São Paulo cultural calendar.
Further details on both the 2028 Rock in Rio edition in Brazil and the 2027 lineup for The Town are expected to be announced by organizers in the coming months.
