Rosalía landed in Mexico City on Saturday, August 22, to open a run of five concerts at the Palacio de los Deportes, debuting new additions to the wardrobe of her LUX Tour. Fashion carries almost as much narrative weight as the staging itself on the tour, and her first Mexico City date brought two looks that stood out immediately.
The LUX Tour began in Lyon in March and is touring Europe and the Americas until September, with each show structured as a series of acts in which music, dance and costume evolve together. In Mexico, Rosalía used the opportunity to introduce new pieces into that visual world.
The fuchsia corset bringing pink back
To perform "Dios Es Un Stalker," Rosalía appeared in a fuchsia corset with thin straps and cups marked by concentric stitching that traced a kind of spiral across the chest. Paired with a voluminous white skirt and a religious-inspired headpiece, the piece took on a character far removed from the sweet or heavily Barbiecore pinks of previous seasons.
The return of pink may lie precisely there: not in reviving the all-fuchsia looks that dominated a few years ago, but in using the color in specific pieces capable of transforming an entire outfit.
The design inevitably recalls the historic corsetry of Jean Paul Gaultier, the French designer famous for his structured corsets, including the cone-bra design once worn by Madonna. Among Gaultier's current offerings is a similar fuchsia top priced at 472 euros, though it has not been confirmed whether Rosalía's piece belongs to the French maison. The connection would not be surprising, since Gaultier already features in the LUX visual imagery and Rosalía has worn pieces from the house's spring-summer 2004 collection during this same era.
The tour's wardrobe is overseen by stylist Jose Carayol, working under the creative direction of Pilar Vila, known as Pili, who is Rosalía's sister. Their collaboration has helped build a visual identity in which religious references, corsetry, ballet and theatrical silhouettes appear and disappear depending on the moment in the concert.
From fuchsia to ballerina: the other new look
While the corset delivered one of the night's boldest bursts of color, another debut drew on a reference that runs through much of the LUX Tour's staging: dance.
During the first act, performing "Sexo, Violencia y Llantas," Rosalía appeared dressed almost like a ballerina. She wore a white bodysuit with a rounded neckline paired with a short, voluminous pale blue tulle skirt, its hem dotted with small pastel floral details.
A dark blue sash marked the waist, breaking with the delicacy of the rest of the outfit, while tights and ballet flats completed a look drawn straight from the imagery of ballet. The two debuts show how the LUX wardrobe continues to evolve even months after the tour began.
