Savannah Guthrie has revealed that Lady Gaga correctly predicted the sex of her first child more than a decade before the singer became a mother herself. Guthrie brought up the story on Monday's episode of the Today show while discussing the news that Gaga and her fiancé, Michael Polansky, have welcomed their first baby together.
Guthrie, 54, explained that she interviewed Gaga in 2014 while pregnant with her own daughter, Vale, and had chosen not to find out the baby's gender in advance. "When I was pregnant with Vale and we didn't find out if it was a boy or a girl, Lady Gaga came on and she said, 'I think you're having a girl,'" Guthrie recalled. "And I said, 'Really? How do you know?' And she said, 'She told me.' Isn't that cute?"
A 'psychic' connection
Guthrie's co-host Jenna Bush Hager was stunned by the story, exclaiming, "What! Vale and Lady Gaga had a connection?!" Guthrie agreed, joking, "I know. They had a psychic message in utero."
Guthrie and her husband, Michael Feldman, welcomed Vale in August 2014. The couple later had a son, Charles, in late 2016.
Gaga, 40, recently welcomed her first child with Polansky, 42, after largely disappearing from public view. According to Page Six, the couple are now new parents, though few details have been confirmed, including the baby's name, sex or date of birth.
Gaga spotted with newborn
Shortly after the news broke, Gaga and Polansky were photographed out in public with a newborn baby, in images obtained by Page Six. In the photos, Gaga could be seen holding what appeared to be a newborn infant against her chest in a sling while walking in Northern California with her fiancé and another woman.
Gaga had last been seen publicly in August, during a fan encounter in Northern California that was documented in a selfie. She had otherwise kept a low profile since wrapping up her Mayhem Ball tour in April.
Gaga and Polansky have been engaged since April 2024 and have been dating since 2019. Polansky is a tech entrepreneur and investor who has worked closely with Facebook co-founder Sean Parker.
Months of speculation
The Daily Mail had previously reported that the couple had been staying out of the spotlight in Marin County, California, at a newly purchased $10 million mansion. Gaga had faced ongoing pregnancy speculation since mid-2024, just months after her engagement to Polansky.
Gaga, known for hits including "Born This Way" and her Academy Award-winning turn in "A Star Is Born," has spoken openly in recent months about her desire to become a mother. During an October 2025 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she said motherhood would be her "next starring role."
"I would like to do many things, yeah, all of these things," she said, after Colbert asked whether she planned to keep acting in films or performing on Broadway. "But, what I really want is to be a mom. That's my next starring role, I hope."
Gaga on becoming a mother
Speaking to The New York Times in March 2025, Gaga said she was "excited to be a mom," even though she "used to have a lot of apprehension about it."
"I'm also kind of at war with myself sometimes as I get ready to, hopefully, become a mom soon," she said. "Like, today is wonderful, but the whole day has revolved around me. There's an incredible amount of narcissism in this."
