Henrique, 37, one half of the Brazilian sertanejo duo Henrique & Juliano, broke down in tears on stage on the night of Friday, September 11, as he opened up about his religious faith. He could not hold back tears as he spoke about mental exhaustion and his search for faith amid the demands of touring life.
The moment happened during the duo's performance at the Itaquá Rodeio Fest, a festival held in Itaquaquecetuba, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.
What Henrique said
Henrique told the crowd that sometimes people get caught up in the daily grind, feeling as though they are in the dark and sensing a certain emptiness, questioning why they do the things they do and the way they do them. He said that at times he feels distant from God and needs to feel His presence.
He went on to say that finding the crowd's warmth when he arrived on stage had brought that energy back to him. Seeing fans singing and enjoying themselves the way they were, he said, made him feel so good that he did not want to leave.
Henrique added that the audience's support gives him the strength to keep going in his musical career. He said he felt like singing there until his strength ran out, and that the feeling reminded him of the energy of God's presence.
Recovery from surgery earlier this year
The emotional moment came months after Henrique underwent surgery in June this year to treat a bilateral inguinal hernia. The duo cancelled a number of shows around the time of the procedure but returned to performing a few days later.
