Brazilian influencer Silvia Braz arrived at the CFDA Fashion Awards in New York wearing an archival Calvin Klein gown made for Gisele Bündchen.
Braz, 45, attended the ceremony on Monday night alongside Brazilian designer Francisco Costa, 62, who retrieved the garment from the fashion house archives sixteen years after its red carpet debut.
Costa originally created the custom piece for Bündchen, now 46, to wear to the 2010 edition of the awards during his tenure as creative director at Calvin Klein. The appearance brought the creation back to the annual gala, which is widely described across the fashion industry as the Oscars of fashion.
Braz said it was an honour to participate in the CFDA Fashion Awards at the invitation of Costa. She praised him as a major Brazilian talent who has gained international recognition for his work and his career.
Archival fashion on the red carpet
The decision to revisit the design highlights Costa's lasting legacy in global fashion. The designer led womenswear at Calvin Klein for over a decade, earning widespread acclaim for sleek architectural silhouettes, subtle detailing, and modern minimalism.
During his time with the American fashion house, Costa won the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year award twice, receiving the honour in 2006 and again in 2008. The accolades confirmed his position as one of the leading Latin American figures in high fashion.
Bündchen was among the most prominent supermodels in the world when she wore the original gown in 2010. The Brazilian model maintained a career spanning decades on international runways and magazine covers, regularly collaborating with leading American and European fashion houses.
Sustainable luxury in the Amazon
Costa now leads Costa Brazil, a sustainable luxury beauty and lifestyle brand inspired by the biodiversity of his home country. He launched the company after travelling to the Amazon rainforest in 2016, where he spent time living alongside the indigenous Yawanawá community.
The brand combines harvested natural ingredients with traditional knowledge and a commitment to environmental conservation. The business represents a major shift for Costa, who moved from high fashion runways to ethical skincare and wellness products.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America
The CFDA Fashion Awards have taken place every year since 1981, serving as one of the central fixtures on the international fashion calendar. Organised by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the ceremony celebrates the creativity and influence of the American fashion industry by honouring top designers, creative talents, and businesses.
Braz, an influential Brazilian digital communicator and entrepreneur, regularly travels to international fashion weeks and red carpet events. Her appearance alongside Costa in the archival gown brought renewed attention to Brazilian talent on the New York red carpet.
