Snoop Dogg will serve as host of the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, taking place on September 27 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The show marks the ceremony's return to California after nearly a decade of being held on the East Coast of the United States.
Snoop Dogg has a long history with the awards show. He has received 13 nominations over the years and won three Moonman trophies, the award's famous astronaut-shaped statuette.
In a statement, the rapper said MTV and the VMAs had been part of his story from the beginning. He said some of the most important moments of his career happened on that stage, which gave hip-hop a place to express itself without fear, in front of the whole world. He said coming back now to host, so many years later, felt to him like closing the circle.
Madonna and Taylor Swift lead nominations
Women dominate this year's nominations list. Madonna leads the field with 11 nominations for her work on "Confessions II," the most of any artist this year. Taylor Swift follows with 9 nominations.
Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter each picked up 7 nominations. Bruno Mars and Zara Larsson each received 5 nominations.
