The movie Spider-Man: A New Day starring Tom Holland set a box office record by earning $500 million during its first week of release in the United States and Canada, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
The film broke the previous speed record held by the 2019 movie Avengers: Endgame, which took eight days to reach $500 million. Spider-Man: A New Day also set an opening weekend record with $360 million in ticket sales, surpassing the $357 million collected by Avengers in 2019 over the same period.
North American sales and Russian premiere
In addition, the new Spider-Man picture set North American sales records for weekday viewing, earning $47 million on Monday and $42 million on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Russian presidential adviser Elena Yampolskaya commented on the postponement of the film's unofficial premiere in Russia. The delay occurred following a request from the distributor of the family film Kolobok.
