Thiago Oliveira has gallbladder surgery after TV Globo show

Television presenter Thiago Oliveira has undergone surgery to remove his gallbladder in São Paulo after hosting his weekly show on Saturday.

The 42-year-old broadcaster filmed the morning programme É de Casa at TV Globo studios in Rio de Janeiro before travelling to São Paulo for the operation on the night of Saturday, October 31.

In a message to his supporters on Sunday, November 1, Oliveira said that everything had gone well, thank God, and thanked viewers for their messages and prayers. He explained that the surgical procedure had been scheduled roughly a month earlier, following a severe health crisis that had prevented him from presenting É de Casa on an earlier Saturday.

Oliveira said he had been required to fast from 11:00 am on Saturday ahead of the procedure, which was scheduled for 8:00 pm. He stated that the operation was quick, taking between 40 and 50 minutes, though he took some time to wake up from the anaesthesia. He added that his doctor had told him he could now resume a normal life.

Gallbladder surgery and recovery

Gallbladder removal, known medically as a cholecystectomy, is a common surgical procedure carried out to treat gallstones and inflammation of the digestive organ. The gallbladder sits beneath the liver and stores bile, but when gallstones block the ducts they can trigger intense abdominal pain. The operation is routinely performed using minimally invasive techniques, allowing patients to recover within a few days.

Oliveira is scheduled to return to work on Wednesday, November 4, following several days of rest at home to recover from the surgery.

The broadcaster is a prominent face on TV Globo, Brazil's largest commercial television network, where he transitioned from sports journalism into mainstream entertainment programming. He serves as one of the regular presenters on É de Casa, fronting the Saturday morning lifestyle and variety show alongside fellow co-hosts Maria Beltrão, Talitha Morete and Rita Batista.
