Attenborough wins Best Presenter as Ant and Dec miss out

Veteran natural historian David Attenborough was awarded the National Television Award for Best Presenter. The win meant presenting duo Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, known as Ant and Dec, missed out on the prize for the second consecutive year.

Ant and Dec had held the Best Presenter accolade for a record 23 consecutive years before losing out to Gary Lineker at last year's ceremony.

Daytime magazine program This Morning continued its winning streak by picking up the award for Best Daytime show. Presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard accepted the honor alongside Friday hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary. This Morning is ITV's flagship daytime show, broadcast live every weekday morning.

Ahead of its planned revamp later this year, BBC One's flagship celebrity ballroom competition Strictly Come Dancing won the Best Talent Show category. Meanwhile, BBC series Celebrity Traitors claimed the award for Reality Competition.

Jeremy Clarkson addresses cancer remission following award win

Prime Video series Clarkson's Farm claimed the award for Reality Docuseries. The series follows former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson as he attempts to run Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds.

Clarkson, 66, revealed earlier this year that he was in remission from prostate cancer. He kept his stage speech brief before addressing his health status in detail during the winner's press conference backstage.

"I wasn't emotional; it was annoying," Clarkson said regarding his illness. "I had a heart thing, and I had a bit of cancer but I wasn't away really, it was two weeks. It was, it was just annoying because I missed a lot of the harvest time."

Comedian Lee Mack secured another victory for his ITV game show The 1 per cent Club. Mack attended the ceremony with his three children and paid tribute to his wife during his acceptance speech on stage.

The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award was presented to Michael McIntyre's Big Show. Television personality Paris Fury and her eight-year-old daughter Valencia presented the award to the comedy variety program.

Mrs Brown's Boys wins Best Comedy despite Brendan O'Carroll jaw injury

The cast of Mrs Brown's Boys expressed delight after taking home the trophy for Best Comedy Show. The win served as a boost for show creator and lead actor Brendan O'Carroll, who was forced to cancel his festive television specials this year after breaking his jaw.

Speaking during the winner's press conference, actor Conor Moloney, who plays the priest in the BBC sitcom, confirmed that O'Carroll had called the cast immediately after the announcement.

"We're just delighted, particularly for Brendan, who's just had this operation, so he FaceTimed us now, and it was just lovely too," Moloney said. "So it's great that we won, particularly for him tonight."

Fiona Gibney, who portrays Sharon in the comedy series, added that O'Carroll was recovering well following his operation.

"He's doing great, isn't he? Yeah, no, he's doing very well. He is doing very well. He's very sad not to be here," Gibney said. "It's one of his most favourite awards is the NTAs. I mean it's a night out for all of us and it’s kind of, you know, it's a bit, but listen, we will give it to him, the award and he'd be happy."

The cast also confirmed that a brand-new series of Mrs Brown's Boys will air next year.

Channel 4 television series Gogglebox won the Factual Entertainment award during its 28th series. The show, which features members of the public reacting to weekly television highlights, beat Stacey Solomon's home organization series Sort Your Life Out to secure the win.
