Marvel’s Phase 4 productions divided public and critical opinion; CEO of the company’s studios seems to be aware of this

The ambitious Phase 4 of the marvel cinematic universe (MCU) divided opinions. In addition to films, TV series were produced with the proposal to present a new context, but the result was not always pleasing.

For this and other reasons, there may be a change in planning especially with regard to the series. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly shortly before the premiere of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaa film that will kick off Phase 5 of the MCU, the CEO of marvel studios, Kevin Feigeindicated some changes to be applied to TV programs.

According to the executive, the idea is to simplify things a little. All the series so far have been designed in such a way as to tie all the episodes together, especially with cliffhangers — feature that consists of leaving the solution to something presented in the plot only for the following episode, provoking curiosity in the public. In opposition to this, the next initiatives can be a little more independent.

We want to make programs that are just programs. I want to continue to make them even more ‘episodic,’ which might seem counterintuitive, but I think there’s something fun about relaxing on the couch and watching an episode that can be relatively self-contained.”

Marvel no serialized approach

Still according to Kevin Feigethe projects of Marvel on the streaming platform disney+ — like the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Archer hawk, moon knight, Ms. Marvel It is She-Hulk — took a very serialized approach to storytelling. This compromised the ability to deliver more independent stories.

“Now, you’re starting to see the fun of a standalone, episodic week-to-week story. We’re going to try that out on some of our next stuff. You cliffhangers they’re great, but I like to watch a show where you just watch and then go to bed. You certainly want to keep people involved, but I’m a big fan of star trek and I still find it comforting to watch an episode of The Next Generation with beginning and end. We will continue to experiment with that going forward.”

Less productions

Some of the upcoming MCU series include Secret Invasion, Iron heart, echo, demolisher, Agatha: Coven of Chaos It is Wonder Man. another idea of Kevin Feige is precisely to reduce the amount of productions for the following years.

“It is a matter of balance. I think when we’re doing about eight projects a year — and again, I say this is going to change a little bit — they all have to be different. They all have to stand out and stand alone and be different from each other.”
