Difficult to pass after Guillermo del Toro
Originally a comic book character, Hellboy caught on with viewers Guillermo del Toro. Twice (in 2004 with Hell boy and 2008 with Hellboy II: The Cursed Golden Legions) the Mexican director played this demon who works forever. He was then played solidly by Ron Perlmann, before a restart is ordered. So, in 2019, this time we discovered David Harbor in THE Hell boy by Neil Marshall.
But if del Toro’s proposals are much appreciated, this is much less the case with this last film. Real failure at the box office and criticized by both fans and the press, this Hellboy 2019 is clearly one to forget. No offense to David Harbour, who had tried to justify the film’s failure by pointing the finger at the fans. And to try to move forward, what could be better than to launch a new reboot ?
A new awakening for Hellboy
This is really what is happening on the Millennium Media side. Second Discussing moviesthe production company would like to try again a new movie Hell boy, still in live action. It would then be a matter of relaunching the license rather than following up on David Harbour’s version.
We learn from the American media that the scenario would have already been written and that the film will be directed by Brian Taylor. The latter notably co-directed delirium Hypertension (2006) and its sequel (2009), or even Phantom Knight 2 (2012). Without his collaborator Mark Neveldine, he also directed 18 episodes of the series Happy! (2017-2019). It is difficult for the moment to judge this choice, because beyond the director, it will be necessary for the production as a whole to keep the road to convince.
Now we wait to see a new interpreter to embody Hellboy. Nothing has been announced about it. According to some sources the working title of this project would be Hellboy: The crooked manwhich could mean that the story takes up that of the comics of the same name (The crooked man in French). In this tome, Hellboy helps a young man free himself from a promise made to the devil when he was young…
