The Landmark Theaters on Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles are closed for good.
The announcement was made by company president Kevin Holloway. hollywood reporter That theater will permanently close later this month after 15 years in the mall’s Westside Pavilion. Landmark continues to operate theaters across the country, including the two remaining Los Angeles locations: the Westwood Spot and the Nuart Theater on Santa Monica Boulevard.
“We’ve been working for months to extend the lease on Landmark Pico, but we haven’t been able to reach an agreement,” Holloway said in a statement. “We are exploring opportunities to expand our presence in Los Angeles, which we hope to share more with soon.”
The shutdown is the latest failure to go to the movies in the Los Angeles area, with the cult Cinerama Dome remaining closed after dark shortly after the pandemic began.
As Laemmle Theaters President Greg Laemle has said, more theaters in this area are likely to close soon. THR Earlier this year, his company hoped to close in 2022. “Part of that is a function of how we built our circle around our own land ownership model,” Laemle explained at the time. “So that gave us a lot of control in the long run, except when you couldn’t pay the rent or the mortgage.”
