The Scott Brothers: Hilarie Burton Returns To Her Sexual Assault

The Scott brothersthe many problems behind the series

The Scott brothers is one of those outstanding series from the 2000s. teenage drama which follows (among other things) the complex romantic relationships of two brothers, Lucas and Nathan Scott, with Peyton, Haley and even Brooke. If this show was particularly pleasant for the audience, it was for the actors the production was not so wonderful. On several occasions since the end of the series (in 2012), the testimonials have pointed the finger creator Mark Schwahn’s problematic behavior.

In 2017, the former screenwriters have it accused of sexual assault. The latter were supported by most of the cast, including the lead actresses Hilarie Burton (Peyton), Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley) and Sophia Bush (Brooke). They still meet regularly to discuss filming each episode of the show on their podcast. Drama queens. They had taken the opportunity to talk about the shocking scenes.

Hilarie Burton attacked by Mark Schwahn

Speaking again, this time to discuss episode 17 season 4 From The Scott brothersHilarie Burton is back at the sexual assault she suffered. Though she never calls Mark Schwahn by name, she does refer to him directly as “boss.” During his speech, he relates that the events took place when production moved to Texas:

He attacked me on the flight home. And she attacked me again in my car on the way from Raleigh to Wilmington. Then he went straight to the set and told Danneel (Ackles) that we kissed and had fun. He was trying to make her jealous. So she confronted me and said, ‘What are you doing? And I said, ‘What are you talking about?’

During this period, the actress lived very poorly to work under the orders of Mark Schwahn, becoming more and more tense to the point that it is felt (according to her) in the series.

For the next three months my blood boiled. I didn’t know how to handle the situation and you can see that in the episode. You can tell they aren’t there… I look like shit, they aren’t there at all.

Chad Michael Murray’s speech

Bethany Joy Lenz then asks her if her colleague has reported the behavior of the creator of The Scott brothers. Hilarie Burton says yes, to many people, and she especially managed to have support from Chad Michael Murray, the interpreter of Lucas and true star of the series. The actor would faced Mark Schwahn in a bar when the latter took the liberty of catching the actress.

Chad (Michael Murray) walked up to our boss and said, “What are you doing?” (…) he saw him catch me in front of many people. Chad had nothing to lose because he knew our boss hated him anyway. Many people had a lot to lose, and in those cases we say nothing. But (Mark Schwahn) felt so comfortable that he didn’t see it as a problem. He said to himself, ‘I can do whatever I want to her in public, even with her boyfriend next door.’

For his status, the actor apparently had much more power and could therefore afford to oppose the creator. A chance for Hilarie Burton:

I’m glad he did. I wish everyone would follow his example of him.
