Ben Affleck reflects on his horrific experience in DC movies

DC Movie: A Nameless Mess

If Marvel Studios is currently experiencing a sluggish phase with its latest productions, what should we say about DC Films (now DC Studios)? Created in 2016, DC Films has been busy rectifying the situation following the “disappointment” batman vs superman. Indeed, Warner had decided to withdraw control of these superhero feature films from DC Entertainment to place them under their own division.

Thus DC Films was born with a clear goal: compete with Marvel Studios. Unfortunately, the project very quickly ran into problems with absolutely disastrous critical feedback from Suicide squad. But the worst is yet to come with the cheating Justice League AND Joss Whedon’s mediocre reassembly (following the sudden departure of Zack Snyder), with Warner’s approval. The film is also downgraded by the press and fans.

It’s the beginning of the mess with abandoned projects by the dozen, movies that take a long time to develop (hello The flash) and a direction that goes in all directions. Above all, tongues end up loosening up on the excessive creative control imposed by Warner via DC Films. Between Zack Snyder complaining about his business Justice League does not live up to its initial vision and David Ayer who will declare much the same, the studio has taken a lead.

Ben Affleck has it big time

Today, hope for a better tomorrow seems to be in order. Indeed, the merger of Warner Bros and Discovery has set a new direction. In this change, it’s now James Gunn and Peter Safran who will be the “Kevin Feige” of the DC feature films. However, the evil still runs deep for some actors who have worked there.

Featured in four DC feature films such as Batman, Ben Affleck experienced firsthand the organizational chaos that was developing within Warner Bros. We therefore recall that the actor-director had to star in and direct his solo film Batman. In the end, this project didn’t come to fruition (at least not with Affleck).

In an interview with The Hollywood ReporterBen Affleck returned to the horrific experience he had while filming Justice League in 2017. And the actor doesn’t mince words:

I was going to direct a Batman and (Justice League) it made me say, “I’m leaving. I don’t ever want to do that again. I’m not fit.” It was the worst experience he’s ever seen in a company full of crap experiences. He broke my heart.

There was an idea from someone (Joss Whedon) who came in and said “I’m going to save you and we’re going to do 60 days of shooting and I’m going to write everything you’ve already done on what you’ve got. J I have the secret. (…) It was difficult. And I started drinking too much. I was back at the hotel in London, was it like this or jumped out the window. And I just thought, ‘This is not the life I want. My children are not here. I’m unhappy”.

Working with James Gunn is no

These statements thus add to those of other actors in the film who worked with Joss Whedon and who have sharply criticized him. After this experience, the actor stated that he would never wear the costume again. However, he was seen reprising the role in 2021 in Justice League reassembled by Zack Snyder. Likewise, he will again be seen playing the Dark Knight in the film. The flash and even appearing as a cameo in Aquaman and the lost kingdom.

If we know the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will likely never work with DC again, won’t convince Ben Affleck to partner with the studio in the future. Also, there is no doubt for him to direct a DCU movie for James Gunn, although he likes the latter :

I wouldn’t direct something for James Gunn at DC. Absolutely not. I have nothing against James Gunn. A good boy, he will certainly do a great job. I wouldn’t want to go in and out like they do. I am not interested.

Ben Affleck therefore wants to regain his creative freedom. We can also see her in her next film titled Airwhich will retrace the historic partnership between Nike and basketball player Michael Jordan. The film will be released soon on Amazon Prime.
