Top 10 flaws that make a person unattractive

While charlatans cite reasons like the “crown of celibacy”, scientists have compiled the top 10 shortcomings that can turn away a person’s potential partners: a separate list for love and marriage, another for relationships occasional. It’s very practical: now everyone who has chronically bad relationships can figure out what’s wrong with them and try to fix something.

Here are the lists recently published in a scientific journal Bulletin of Personality and Social Psychology.

Of course, these are not universal lists that unconditionally correspond to everyone’s opinion. What puts off one may attract another: -for example, people with similar health problems or trying to get rid of harmful addictions may find in the other comrades in misfortune. And the same smell can repel one person and seem incredibly attractive and exciting to another. The same goes for external attractiveness or love skills.

The impulsivity trait (not in the top 10, but it can also get in the way of high feelings, according to the study) puts off those looking for stability, but is very appealing to those looking for a boring life.

And priorities can change depending on what a person wants from a relationship. For example, notice that hygiene issues and bad smells moved back a few lines as soon as the topic turned to love and not a short romance.

Gregory Webster, An associate professor of psychology at the University of Florida and one of the authors of the study, explains: the most annoying thing is that negative qualities often overshadow the positive traits that the person you are interested in has. It’s all about evolution: it’s what makes us see a person’s faults more clearly than his good or neutral qualities. She therefore helped our ancestors to choose for themselves a partner who would be a good father and who would not be a threat to his family – otherwise it could interfere with the survival of our species.

Trust your intuition, advises the scientist. If a person seems “solid” and “positive”, but your soul doesn’t rest with them, don’t persuade yourself that they are a suitable part. Maybe you have an underlying feeling that a relationship with him might not be safe.

“How many times have people taken advantage of avoiding the owner of negative traits rather than trying to improve a potential mate,” Webster says.

Of course, compromise is a sign of a healthy relationship. Therefore, pay attention to the qualities of a person with whom you really cannot get along. But don’t look for the ideal – you still won’t find it.
