This pleasant habit increases the risk of developing dementia: an unexpected conclusion of the scientists

Giving up this seemingly innocent habit will protect you from developing dementia in old age. Take care of your health now!

When beloved actor Bruce Willis was diagnosed with dementia in February of this year, we all began to wonder if it was possible to reduce the risk of this disease. Alas, it is impossible to completely protect yourself from senile dementia, but there is always something you can do.

Do not take care! In our articles, we collect the latest scientific data and the opinions of authoritative health experts. But remember: only a doctor can diagnose and prescribe treatment.

Recently, the Chinese edition of Sina published the results of a large-scale study conducted by scientists from the University of California. For 14 years, they observed a group of 1,400 volunteers and recorded changes in their brain function under the influence of a single factor: daytime sleep.

At the request of the scientists, 76% of the volunteers increased their daytime sleep by 11 minutes each year and eventually increased the frequency of these sleepovers to 3-5 times a week. The other subjects continued to live according to their usual mode.

At the end of the experiment, 24% of the participants had a predisposition to develop Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists have attributed this tendency to long periods of rest during the day. The experiment showed that those who regularly slept more than an hour after dinner were 40% more prone to senile dementia than those who spent less than 60 minutes a day on it.

This morning symptom will warn you for a few days of a stroke: you can’t ignore it!

Scientists pointed out that daytime sleep, of course, is not the only provocateur of the disease. All volunteers were elderly and were also exposed to other factors influencing cognitive decline. However, do not rush to completely abandon a pleasant habit: the results of other studies have shown that a 20-minute nap in the afternoon, on the contrary, prolongs the life and youth of the brain.
