Best Buy, the Greater Los Angeles Education Foundation (GLA) and the Annenberg Foundation announced the creation of three new centers for the LA Community Impact Hub that will provide local youth with access to technology and resources.
Last year, the Coalition of Organizations planned to create up to 12 community technology centers in Los Angeles for teens. After the inaugural trio’s initial announcement, these innovations brought their total number to six. Existing community sites that received the grant are expected to open in 2023.
Best Buy Teen Tech Center locations are after-school locations designed to give students the opportunity to educate themselves and learn about new technologies. Newly announced locations for the grant are Watts Labor Community Action Committee, Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA and Antelope Valley Boys & Girls Club.
“We are excited and proud to support more young people in the community with new opportunities to build a better future through technology,” said Andrea Wood, vice president of social impact at Best Buy, in a press release. “The LA Community Impact Hub gives teens the tools and resources to make their dreams come true, now and in the future.”
The technology centers will collaborate with groups and individuals in the entertainment industry to give interested students access to skill development in areas such as film, digital media and audio engineering. The LA Community Impact Hubs will provide students with mentoring opportunities with working artists and professionals and will provide mental health and wellness services through the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
