Nawell Madani responds to criticism
If the series is the most watched on Netflix in recent days, some viewers have not appreciated it. Indeed, dispute emerged on social networks by some of them, who felt that the show caricatured the North African community. Invited to the set of Clique, Nawell Madani wanted to respond to these criticisms.
Thus, she confided that the criticism that hurt her the most was when she was accused of “stigmatizing the most”:
My intention was noble. I wanted to talk about the girls in the neighborhood who fight (…) I chose people we’re not used to seeing on screen.
Nawell Madani also spoke about the choice of the actress Paola Locatellimuch criticized also on social networks:
We also had feedback on the fact that I chose Paola, who is Cape Verdean and Italian, to play the role of a young North African. I mean, we also have to lead by example. We are happy when we see Lyna Khoudri play Constance in The Three Musketeers. When I see an Omar Sy playing a Lupine, I don’t say to myself “But after all, isn’t he white?”. It’s up to us to show diversity (…) when they say “yes, she’s in the evening, she goes hand in hand with blacks”. As if it were crazy (…) when we wrote to each other we were like “hey, we need to talk a little bit about everything. Not just about racism or sexism that we can encounter in the media. But in the neighborhood, in the family.
Finally, regarding the release date of So far, so good In full period of RamadanNawell Madani confided that it was not done on purpose:
Netflix told us “it’s time”. You don’t decide.
