Game of Thrones was just the beginning
Series game of Thrones, adapted from the work of George RR Martin remains one of the most emblematic (if not the most emblematic) of HBO to this day. Then, once completed, the network didn’t have to look far to continue leveraging the wealth of this universe.
Thus, shortly after the end of the series, HBO announced the start of various spin-offs. The Errant Knight
During the presentation of Max, the new streaming platform from Warner Bros. Discovery (formerly HBO Max), the company took the opportunity to unveil its future flagship programs. And among them, announced the start of the series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight (The Errant Knight).
Still based on the work of George RR Martin, this prequel to game of Thrones will take place nearly a century before the events of the original series. She will follow the adventures of two wandering heroes in Westeros: ser Duncan the Great, a naive but courageous young knight, accompanied by the one nicknamed the Egg, his faithful squire. Right now, the Targaryens still sit on the Iron Throne, but the last of the dragons are gone. They will encounter powerful enemies and dangerous obstacles on the way to their destiny.
The first season of this prequel will be based on the first short novel written by George RR Martin and published in 1998. In particular, we will meet the Prince Baelor Targaryen and his nephew, Aerion the Flamboyant, as they compete in the Ashford Tournament (Ashford Meadow in VO).
This new show will allow us to learn a little more about life in Westeros right now. The family wars should then remain in the background, even if we will come across several members of famous lines.

HBO has given us the green light to shoot a full season (not just a pilot), probably six episodes. Our first season will be an adaptation of the first of three published short stories, ‘The Errant Knight’, the story of Dunk and Egg’s meeting at the Ashford Meadow tournament. The driver script has already been written and it’s great. It was written by Ira Parker, who worked on Ryan Condal’s team on House of the Dragon.
Executive producer, George RR Martin, also confirmed that he did for the first time talked about this HBO prequel in… 2016:
In the summer of 2016, when HBO started thinking about Game of Thrones spin-offs, I pitched them two ideas: House of the Dragon and Dunk & Egg. That was seven years ago (I can’t believe it). All of this is to say that development takes time. It’s not because you haven’t heard of a series that has been canceled (…)
