Al Pacino could have acted Star Wars

In the early 70’s, Al Pacino it reveals itself by chaining strong performances into ever more impressive films. Already fascinating as an addict in Panic in Needle Park (1971), becomes a star thanks to the success of the first film The Godfather in 1972. This rich filmography could have been accompanied by participation in one of the greatest sagas in the history of cinema: Star Wars. The actor revealed it during a conversation organized in New York (broadcast by variety). As he explains, when George Luke was preparing the production ofA new hope (1977), Al Pacino was popular actor and all the roles were offered to him.

When I arrived, I was the newcomer, and you know what happens when you become famous. He was like “give it to Al”. They would have given me Queen Elizabeth to play.

Al Pacino then received the script for the first film Star Wars. Only the actor completely lost it and I didn’t understand the story.

They gave me a script called “Star Wars”. They offered me so much money for it. But I did not understand. I read it. And I said I couldn’t do it.

I gave Harrison Ford a career

It would seem that the role offered to him was none other than by Han Solo since, as he later jokingly says: “I gave Harrison Ford a careerThe latter had already shot in several feature films. Let’s think about the independent film American Griffiti (1973) by George Lucas, and his supporting role in secret speech (1974) – but of which we especially remember Gene Hackman. However, his portrayal of Han Solo in Star Wars changed the situation. It’s obvious with Indiana Jones the actor’s other cult role.

Al Pacino would have had the same career by agreeing to play Star Wars ? One can imagine that she would not necessarily agree to wear Hunting (1980) or become the iconic Tony Montana in scarface (1983). And we can also wonder about the choices Harrison Ford would have made without appearing in Star Wars. But when we see the journey of these two great film actors, we can thank Al Pacino for refusing.
