She was awarded the Swedish Polar Music Prize for Pop and Diane Warren.

At a ceremony in Stockholm on Tuesday, Iggy Pop and the Ensemble Intercontemporain received the Polar Music Prize 2022.

Celebrating success in music, the award is given annually to a popular musician and a performer of classical music. Songwriter Diane Warren also hosted the 2020 awards ceremony as previous award ceremonies were postponed by COVID.

Upon receiving the award, Papa commented: “Recognition is a serious lover… Ada Osterberg, a Swedish immigrant to the United States, adopted my father James…[Ada] She was a Red Cross nurse and was raised by my father during the Great Depression… They were great people, real people. I’m not big or real. At this point I am a myth. Fortunately, music is a form of myth. All beauty comes from belief in myth. But a lot of times, you have to get real, like balls. That’s how I got here. So when you think of music, when you think of this award, and if you remember, think of balls.”

Diane Warren, a 13-time Oscar nominee, also attended the 2020 awards ceremony. In her speech, she said, “I’ve always looked at my music as a passport. I was taken, a kid from Van Nuys, California, to become a songwriter with wild dreams, to many places I could only imagine going: the voices of some of the greatest singers on the planet, in the hearts of people all over the world. . that my songs somehow touched and somehow became a part of your life, the Oscars, so many places I’ve only dreamed of going. Tonight, this country, this prestigious award. I don’t think my name is now among the great artists who also received this honor…”

He continued, “This is what I still wake up with every day and live with. I can’t realize for a moment how lucky I am. That I can write a song for someone to feel good, to feel seen, understood, to feel less alone. So cool? Thank you for this award and for an amazing night I will never forget.”

The Polar Music Prize has been held annually since its founding in 1989 by the Swedish music icon. Stig “Stickan” Anderson, who was editor, lyricist and manager of ABBA.
