James Corden and Stephen Colbert, like many on the late-night network, had already filmed their Tuesday shows when a Texas elementary school shooting that left 19 children dead was reported.
But the two took a few minutes on each show to resolve the tragedy.
Standing in front of a dimly lit audience, Corden gave an emotional speech and expressed his sadness for those affected by the “unknown” tragedy when he mentioned his own children.
