The idola sexy but problematic series?
Series The idol I’ve been talking about her for weeks now. The Creation of Sam Levinson (Euphoria, Murderous nation), The weekend (real name Abel Tesfaye) and Reza Fahim first gained attention with an early canon teaser. We found it there Lily-Rose Depp as pop singer who begins a sulphurous affair with a strange Los Angeles club boss played by The Weeknd. Therefore, HBO promised us a hot and sexy new work that would try to criticize the world of celebrities.

However, while the release of the series was long overdue, an article by RollingStone came to create a bad buzz around the show. An investigation into the shooting by the American media he described problematic conditions and a series that would rock in the “Torture porn“. HBO reacted quickly and said the production work environment had been “safe and respectful“.
A big challenge for The Weeknd
If initially The Weeknd had simply replied with an ironic tweet, he recently expressed himself in an interview with W magazine. The singer thus justified himself delay what had taken the series highlighting his need in each of his musical creations, and therefore also in the case of the series The idol.
Cinema and television are a new creative muscle for me. I don’t release my music until I think it’s great. Why should it be different here?
He goes on to explain that he never panics, even when everyone around him is worried. He manages to keep calm, and therefore remained calm even in the face of this controversy. And when the series was supposed to do many reshoots after the departure of Amy Seimetz (replaced as director by Sam Levinson) due to creative differences, The Weeknd was faced with a real challenge that would have consequences for his health.
It was a challenge to remake The Idol and, the truth is, I sacrificed my health and my home to make it work. So let’s say it comes out and it’s awful. I know I will have done my best.
If he ends up saying what he’s seen on the show is great, viewers will have to wait. June 4th discover The idol (via Prime Video’s Warner Pass). Before that, the show will be entitled to an exceptional preview at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
