Evil Dead Rise: Evil Reborn
Created by Sam Raimi in 1981, the franchise evil Dead had multiple sequels and reboots over four decades. Ten years after Fede Alvarez’s remake, it was director Lee Cronin who took on the subject The Rise of the Evil Dead, released on April 19. Regard fifth film in the seriesand like the one released in 2013, it does not feature the Ash Williams character.
The plot begins in a cabin on the shore of a lake. It is in this bucolic setting that three friends have decided to take a short getaway. Escape that quickly turns into bloodbath after one of the two friends, possessed by a demonic entity, commits a massacre.
After this bloody introduction, the film returns a few hours earlier, to where it all began. We then meet Beth, who comes from her older sister Ellie, who is raising her three children alone in a small apartment in Los Angeles. In this old building, Ellie’s son discovers a mysterious book, which contains a demon that will soon take over Ellie. The latter, unable to fight against this demonic force, will therefore attack the same family as her.
A box office success
Forbidden to children under 16 in France and R-Rated in the United States, The Rise of the Evil Dead it is a real success worldwide box office. Thus, it has already brought almost 117 million dollars at the time of writing these lines, for an estimated budget of 17 million. In France, the feature has already amassed more than 500,000 admissions, a very good score for an R16-rated film.
