According to renowned American gynecologist Dr. Stephanie Fobion, most women go through menopause at age 52. In general, the standard age range for menopause is 45 and older.
But in some cases, menopause starts at a younger age, and sometimes that can be a problem. According to Fobion, 5% to 7% experience early menopause and 1% to 2% experience so-called premature menopause even earlier in life.
What is called premature menopause and what are its signs
Menopause before age 45. Otherwise, there is no difference between menopause and early menopause, notes Dr. Fobion.
The signs and symptoms of early menopause are similar to those of natural menopause, including hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, mood swings, and trouble sleeping. Anxious and depressive states can also occur – this is due to changes in hormonal levels.
