Barbie inspired by Laverne Cox, trans actress from Orange is the New Black and Inventing Anna, hits stores from June
Actress and rights activist LGBTQ+,Laverne Coxknown for its role in Orange is the New Black(2013) and inventing Anna (2021), is the first trans woman to inspire a Barbie produced by Mattel. The doll is part of the Collection Tributo line, which seeks to bring representation of important women to the world.
cox took advantage of the 50th anniversary, celebrated on May 29, to have a party for the launch of the doll. “I have dreamed of working with the Barbie. I can’t wait for fans to find my doll in stores and have the opportunity to have a trans person item in their collection.” (via UOL)
THE Barbie inspired by cox wears a flowing tulle dress, which, when removed, shows a white boot, pants and corset, characteristic of the actress. On her head, she has long blonde hair, her trademark in Orange is The New Black. doll of cox arrives at Brazilian stores in June with a value of R$ 359.99.

In an interview with people, cox explained how he always wanted to have dolls in childhood, but he never had the opportunity because the toy was associated with the female gender. “When I was little, I begged my mother for a Barbie and she always refused because I was identified as male when I was born,” he said.
“I was telling my therapist how hurt I was when I didn’t get to play with a Barbie. And he told me, ‘It’s never too late to be a happy child. Get out of here and go buy one Barbie. There is a child that still lives in you – give him space to play.’ And that’s what I did,” she added.
The actress explained that she was very involved in the creative process of producing the doll and hopes that “in this environment where trans children are being attacked, that this can also be a celebration of transsexuality and a space for them and for them to dream, understand and be remembered.” that being trans is beautiful.”
