“How can anyone hate so much what he once loved?” asked George RR Martin
George RR Martinwriter of the saga The Chronicles of ice and Fire (1996), which inspired the series game of Thrones (2011), commented on the mixed and mixed reactions of fans to the series finale of HBO (via The Independent).
I can’t understand how people can hate so much something they once loved. If you don’t like a series anymore, don’t watch it! How did everything become so toxic?
The author also spoke about online spaces and the difficulty of producing new stories without constant criticism from viewers.
“In the past, if you were a Star Trek fan, it was because you liked Star Trek. Today it seems that half of the people who call themselves Star Trek fans actually hate Star Trek. And it’s the same with Star Wars, and with Tolkien. . How so?”, he continued.
martin raised the possibility of fan hatred coming from changes being made to the common plot, with classic scenes and plotlines often seen on the big screen. However, the writer was quick to rebut the argument: “As a writer, you go crazy if you don’t change things up a little bit. You want to tell new stories, not the same stories all the time.”
The eight seasons game of Thronesreleased between 2011 and 2019, were partially based on the books in the saga The Chronicles of ice and Fire, signed by Martin. Episodes are available for streaming on HBO Max.
