Medellin on Prime Video: great success
Available June 2 on Prime Video, Medellin is the new creation of Franck Gastambide (The Kaira, flap). As the name suggests, the action comedy takes place in Colombia, in the footsteps of Pablo Escobar. The film tells the story of three neighborhood friends who embark on a chase in Colombia to save the little brother of one of them, a youtuber, taken hostage by drug traffickers from the dangerous Medellin cartel.
In the casting, alongside Franck Gastambide, we find in particular Ramzy Bedia, Anouar Toubali, but also a certain Mike Tyson, who brings an international dimension to the film. And the recipe worked wonderssince the feature took first place in 68 countries (including France) during its release weekend, managing to place in the top 10 in several others. Medellin is notably number 2 in the US, a premiere for a French film on Prime Video.
The international stakes had been underlined since the first exchanges between the director of this blockbuster and the streaming giant. Prime Video’s director of French creations, Thomas Dubois, had entrusted our colleagues of the Parisian That Medellin was “the most ambitious French film to date” and that the idea, from the outset, had been to have “visibility in 240 countries”.
