Pushing to the limits
As we know, actor and producer Tom Cruise is not pretending. The action he offers to see is so satisfying because he strives for utmost authenticity, and for years now his fans have quivered with excitement—and even concern—with every take in which he assures them—even your own waterfalls. Which of course are all more impressive and dangerous than each other. On this subject, we already know that Tom Cruise has, quite naturally, accomplished basic jump a motorcycle for the needs of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1. A crazy stunt, which can already be stored next to its takeoff hanging on the outside of an Airbus A400M in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nationhis freediving record for the same film, or his run up the facade of the Burj Khalifa in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
For this sequence in particular, it was the actor Matt Damon who told the backstage, during a conversation with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes for the Max series Smartless: on the go. In fact, he explains that in favor of a dinner at which Tom Cruise was present, he asked him the question of the production of this impressive stunt.
“I hired another ‘security officer'”
Matt Damon recalls his discussion with Tom Cruise in these terms:
I remember having dinner with him, after doing Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, where he ran around the skyscraper. So I ask him: “Tell me how you did it?” He’s a really intense guy, and he said, “I’ll tell you how we did it!”
He tells me: “I’ve been thinking about this sequence for 15 years!”. Me: “Oh yeah, really?” Tom continues: “I go to the security manager and explain everything to him. He replies: “We can’t do that. It’s too dangerous, we can’t do it.” So I hired another “security officer”.
Matt Damon goes on to explain that this is where he and Tom Cruise are very different, in that, for him, if the security people give a negative opinion about a stunt, he stops there. But Tom Cruise is not exactly the type to accept a “no”. So rather than change the sequence, so it changed to “security officer”… Logical, but not necessarily in the sense of caution…
