Singer admitted surprise in admirers of Eva, the leader of a cult who plays in the series of Donald Glover – and spoke as the series reveals the ‘creepy’ side of fame
Billie Eilish confessed that he is impressed when people say they like his role in Swarm. According to the singer, who debuted as an actress in the series Donald Glover It is Janine Nabersher character, Eva “wants the worst of the worst” and is not to be admired by people.
The statement came in an interview with Varietyin which he commented on the success of her performance as Eva, the leader of a “female empowerment” group, which ultimately turns out to be a toxic cult – inspired by a true story.
“Some fans talk about how they love Eva [e a acham] so comforting. Guys, no! It’s a facade! She wants the worst of the worst! And that happens, when someone makes someone feel comfortable and then they abuse the fuck out of it.”
In the episode in which she appears, Eva has a disturbing interaction with Dre (Dominique Fishback), a fanatical young woman who takes her obsession with a pop singer (Ni’jah, from Nirine S. Brown) to the ultimate consequences. For Eilish, the plot, inspired by pop devotion to BeyoncĂ©, is reflected in the behavior of fans, who do not realize the dangerous nature of the character:
“The passion of the fans is real and it’s so beautiful, but it’s also really scary,” he says. “I think the show is a metaphor for this power – about what the deluded nature of people is. [com seus Ădolos], like ‘she’ll see me and we’ll be best friends!’ Fans are very, very powerful, and I think maybe they don’t even realize how much.”
out of character
In the interview, Eilish also spoke about her preparation for Swarm. According to her, the invitation to join the series would have been made shortly after her participation in the Coachella 2022. When the schedule allowed, she started the acting lab with her mother, the actress Maggie Beard. Later, she recognizes the help of colleague Dominique Fishback to build her character:
“She came to my trailer and sat on her ass beside me, our legs were touching and I felt a connection with her,” he says. That connection would have translated into the scene – largely due to Dominique’s method: “She would crack up and then get serious, then smile, then cry…at one point I snapped out of character and said, ‘Are you okay?’ And she kept going on, and I’m like, ‘Sorry, was that part of the scene?'”
Swarm debuted in March and is available on Prime Video.
