This Thursday premiered the new season of Black Mirror After four years on hiatus, the series addresses the dark side of technology and modernity, and the question arises of which episode is the best so far. A strong candidate is “The Entire History of You” (“The Whole Story of You”), the third and final episode of the first season.

What not everyone knows is that this episode has an unexpected connection with Succession, the super popular series HBO, which tells the story of a dysfunctional family and their struggle for control of a media and entertainment empire. And the connection in question is behind the camera – it actually starts with the script: that’s because it was written by Jesse Armstrongthe same name behind “The Entire History of You”.

Before devoting himself to the Roy family drama, armstrong was the mind behind this one, which is considered one of the saddest chapters of the dystopian series. In it, suspense meets science fiction, in a plot in which everyone has a microchip implanted behind the ear, which records everything that the eyes see and allows memories to be played back in real time as if they were clips on the YouTube.

In order to document every step on social media, it still seemed harmless. “The Entire History of You” It’s a critique of people’s need for exposure on social media and how nowadays it’s very easy to know everything about someone, just things they post, find out about someone’s past, where they go and who they hang out with.

Different at first, both the episode of Black Mirror as for the series HBO they keep within themselves different dimensions of the human drama – be it in the relationship with technology, on the one hand, or the limitless disputes for power.

The sixth season of Black Mirrorpremiered this Thursday (15). All episodes including “The Entire History of You”are available at Netflix. Succession ended its last season last May and is available on HBO Max.
