Guide to marathoning the new season of Black Mirror
After the four-year hiatus, Black Mirror returns with everything in the sixth season with new plots and characters, the author Charlie Brooker reveals to NME Some details of the episodes of the new season:
First episode – ‘Joan Is Awful’
The episode synopsis tells about an ordinary woman who is surprised to find that her whole life has become a TV series on a global streaming platform, in which she is played by Hollywood actress Salma Hayek.
The author reveals that the initial idea of this episode would be for the character to appear on the cover of a newspaper, but he endowed it with something more consistent with modernity, in this case a worldwide streaming platform. Brooker was inspired by The Dropoutfor the plot.
Second episode – ‘Loch Henry’
The episode synopsis tells of a young couple traveling to an isolated town in Scotland to work on a nature documentary – but find themselves drawn into a local “legend” involving shocking events from the past.
Charles says he’s a big fan of watching true crime “I really enjoy watching true crime documentaries, although I don’t think I should, in a way,” he says Brooker. Rhoades adds, “I think for us, you can be a big fan of true crime documentaries and, you know, understand that we’re all a little macabre” and used that fanaticism to create a suspenseful fit.
Third episode – ‘Beyond The Sea’
As the participation of Aaron PaulJesse Pinkman of Breaking Bad, the synopsis reads: In an alternate 1969, two men on a dangerous high-tech mission grapple with the aftermath of an unimaginable tragedy.”
Charles revealed to have been inspired by the isolation caused by the pandemic to create the plot of this episode. How to commute to work just by opening a Zoom call. “It’s the best work-from-home episode, the best Zoom call,” he says. “It was an idea that had been playing around in my head for some time… inspired by the pandemic.” He told.
Fourth episode – ‘Mazey Day’
Mazey is a troubled starlet who is hounded by invasive paparazzi while dealing with the aftermath of a hit-and-run incident. To lovers of Twilightthis episode was made for you, Mazey turns into a werewolf!
After running over and killing a werewolf at the beginning of the episode, the character develops these conditions and tries at all costs to hide it. Brooker does not speak directly about the episode being a reference to the film but the soundtrack of the episode also appears in the franchise Twilight.
Fifth episode – ‘Demon 79’
In 1979, in the north of England, a docile sales assistant named Nida is told that she must commit terrible acts to avoid the disaster of Gaap the Demon, who instead of being a horrible and monstrous creature is actually an inspired pop star. in the look of the bands of the 70s.
Both fail in their missions, Nida in committing murders and Gaap in his satanic training, which ends up creating a friendship between the characters. “Is ‘eternal oblivion’ vaporized by a nuclear bomb or is it able to remain?… In a way, it’s a love story, you know. I think Gaap found someone in Nida, you know. Obviously, he had a job to do, but it was a very lonely job.” It says Brooker.
