[Warning: This story contains spoilers for the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode “Spock Amok.”]
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Actor Gia Sandhu Knows T. Prince And Spock Won’t Get Together Eventually the original seriesBut he finds great beauty in his current journey.
T’Pring, a volcano that was associated with Spock as a child, only appeared briefly in the 1960s television series portrayed by the late Arlene Martel in the classic episode “Amok Time”. Most casual fans will instantly recognize the episode of Spock and Kirk dueling over Lirpa, the volcano’s cult weapon. By the end of the episode, Spock and Tipring are no longer (in the volcanic sense) married. Your story begins and ends with an episode. But much more needed to be said.
And this story now unfolds through Sandus Tipring and Ethan Peck Spock. strange new worlds Take a deeper look at the causes of both volcanoes, specifically to each other. And this week’s episode (perfectly titled “Spock Amok”) won’t disappoint, as Spock and T’Pring accidentally switch bodies.
in an interview the hollywood reporterSandu explores the relationship between the two characters and reveals that there are deep emotions between them. But, there are also complications. The actor also spoke. THR About her and Peck’s process of portraying each other to a classic but totally profitable trope.
I love hearing how people got involved in the show. Can you share how you got the tip paper?
I went through the traditional casting process. And when I was given the audition scene, the character wasn’t really exposed, which is typical. ᲕThe way of the stars Usually foundry. (laughs.) It just said “Volcano Woman”, so I made my best volcano woman. I’m so glad I didn’t know it was T’Pring for the role. If I had known, I could have gotten it into my head! I sent the tape of the initial audition, which in itself was a unique experience, because usually the actor tries not to sound the way he talks in rehearsals. And I remember watching my audition and thinking, ‘Am I acting really bad or am I doing this? Something? “I think I was doing volcano because they asked me for a second audience and so I finished the role.

How did you prepare for the role? You were in a unique situation: T’Pring appeared the original series Played by the late Arlene Martel, but only briefly, so you weren’t a hereditary character like Ethan Spock.
I went straight to the source and saw “Amok Time”, which I had never seen before. I’ve actually never seen any of them. the original seriesSo this was the first episode I watched! I remember looking at Arlene Martel and saying, “Oh my God. Am I kidding him? I was so excited. Although his screen role is short, he is very influential. T’Pring is only on “Amok Time,” so he was very insistent on what I think other actors should adhere to. Arlene created this wonderful outline of the character, but she really had a lot of room to color within that outline.
I checked the ethane material. Star Trek: Discovery And he also returned to Leonard Nimoy’s performances. Many other components were conceivable. When you’re playing someone who’s more established than you are, you’re someone less established, you really use your imagination and creativity to get there.
This week’s episode is a lot of fun. I love the classic body-modified body tropics. How did you and Ethan prepare for a lot of acting training?
Ethan has been very generous in allowing me to be a part of his process and has revealed to me what influences him the most. And of course Leonard Nimoy, I saw the documentary. [For the Love of Spock]. And I’ve been through a lot COUGH episodes. I’ve also tried some of Ethan’s Spock singing since I’ve seen his work. DiscoverySo it was very informative and helpful for me.
We actually sat down together and said, “How do you say that? How do you say it? “We have to find out for ourselves what is most recognizable to the viewer in terms of Spock’s mannerisms, voice and intonation. Eventually give us a little free pass because the joke is when it all starts, Ti Prince Spock’s body tells Captain Pike. [Anson Mount]”Now that you know what’s going on, you can clearly see the difference between us.” (laughs.) And Pike says, “Yes, of course,” saying that volcanoes are very similar.
Most of my relationship in this episode is with Spock and Jest. [Bush] who plays the nurse [Christine] Chapel. As we prepared for the episode, Ethan, Jess and I got together and discussed what our characters are experiencing and what their intentions are. We rehearse together on stage where Chapel and Spock are on a leaning body. Ethan listened and helped point us in the right direction. One of the things I definitely had to consider as T’Pring was that I keep moving forward as well. Their chemistry. It’s almost the opposite of what my instincts want me to do, but I understand the part about what happens to them. Yes, we had a great connection.
I spoke to Ethan recently and he told me you are so good at playing volcano, feeling there should be more volcano in your shared scenes. Can you tell me more about reviving T’Pring?
I think T’Pring treats himself especially with a lot of grace, and it’s Also Directed at how he speaks. His words are very carefully chosen and everything comes from Arlene Martel, the original T’Pring. I really wanted to keep it as elegant as possible. I think he’s probably a little nervous. He and Spock are two people who love each other and try to navigate the best long-distance relationship by living on two different planets. The intentions of both, of course, are to ensure that this relationship is successful. This whole episode becomes very funny, but it really starts with the fact that they both want to share each other’s katra so they can understand each other more and things work out between them. This is the most sincere intention that deceives them.

Sadly, fans know this wasn’t supposed to be between Spock and Tipper. How do you assess character and performance when you know the outcome well?
Let go of the future and try to respect what is written for us now. It’s a very related situation. In every relationship there are frustrations and triumphs. And the second part that I love is that there’s a love triangle going on at the same time. So I think there’s some soup when it comes to the situation with Nurse Chapel. There is just challenge after challenge they have to face and work on. And I think that’s really what makes a super connection.
Finally, can you tell me about your experience when the cameras don’t move? Several cast members told me that they all became a cohesive group.
Everyone is very easy to communicate with, very friendly and everyone is welcome. When I got the actors, Anson gathered them at the ice rink for his birthday and invited me over. This was the first time I met everyone when we went skating in Toronto.
The interview is edited for length and clarity.
