California Science Center breaks down space shuttle Endeavor’s house

The California Science Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday morning celebrated the opening of its future Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, which will be completed with an additional 200,000 square foot science center that will house the space shuttle Endeavor. The space shuttle’s three remaining orbiters flew.

When the long-awaited three-year project is complete, Endeavor will be displayed in the Shuttle Gallery, in a vertical launch configuration with solid rocket thrusters and an external tank, which is no small feat given that the space shuttle has five floors. with a wingspan of 78 feet and a weight of 170,000 pounds.

According to ZGF’s architectural design, the center will house a total of 150 exhibitions, including Endeavor. To fund the project, the California Science Center Foundation, along with the State of California, has already raised $280 million for its $400 million EndeavorLA campaign.

“The Samuel Oschin Aerospace Center will be a launchpad for creativity and innovation to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and researchers,” said Jeffrey Rudolph, executive director of the California Science Center.

During the ceremony, US Senator Alex Padilla reviewed California’s contribution to science and space, noting that California was the place where Chuck Jaeger first broke the sound barrier. He said he hoped the exhibition would encourage and educate today’s diverse future generations to “not just step in, but lead that heritage.”

Speakers included Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garsett, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Los Angeles County Supervisory Board Chair Holly Mitchell and Linda Oshin. Former NASA astronauts Gregory Chamitoff, Barbara Morgan and Gareth Reisman attended the ceremony. Governor Gavin Newsom and US Senator Mark Kelly, as well as a former NASA astronaut who commanded the last Endeavor mission, joined together with remotely recorded messages.

The California Science Center is located in Exposition Park, whose future residents also include the George Lucas Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.

Plans are for the Space Center’s shuttle gallery to include footage of Endeavor’s historic move to California and other stages of exhibit preparation documented over the years by Hollywood Production Society volunteers, led by California Science Center Administrator, David Knight, Matt. Eleven years ago, Endeavor’s move to California brought together more than 150 Hollywood professionals, including members of the Society of Camera Operators such as the late Oscar winner Haskell Wexler and the late SOC president and cameraman Dan Knles. The journey began with Endeavor mounted on top of a Boeing 747 at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This flight landed at LAX and then began a multi-day tour of the streets of Los Angeles at the California Science Center Exposition Park. Millions of Californians saw this historic move, and after arriving at the Science Center, more than 18 million people visited the National Treasury in its temporary exhibit.

Later, Hollywood volunteers became involved in filming related events such as the 2016 tanker truck transport and VR filming. That contribution continued Wednesday with cameraman Mark Moser and cameraman Keith Tran capturing the opening ceremony and Space Shuttle Red with the latest Komondo 6K camera, as well as Red’s Raven and Raptor cameras. Post-production veterinarian and photographer Chuck Visual Data Null also continued with photographic documentation of the shuttle’s voyage.
