Released in 1998, The Truman Show was one of Jim Carrey’s biggest hits outside of comedy.
Screenwriter of The Truman Show – The Show of Life (1998), one of the most acclaimed films with Jim Carrey as a lead actor, Andrew Niccol revealed how he would like a continuation of the production in the form of a television series.
According to the official synopsis of the film, “Truman Burbank (carrey) is a quiet insurance salesman who leads a simple life with his wife Meryl Burbank (Laura Linney). However, some things around him make him wonder about his city, his supposed friends and even his wife. After meeting the mysterious Laurenhe is intrigued and ends up discovering that his entire life has been monitored by cameras and broadcast on national television.”
It is worth remembering how the actor won the first Golden Globe for acting in The Truman Show. During an interview with Screen Rant, Niccol gave some details about the idea he had about a possible sequel to the film.
“There’s been talk of doing a musical – believe it or not – or a series. When it comes to a different art form, I don’t think it takes anything away from the original,” stated the writer. “In my version of a series, I thought it would be fun, if after Truman walked across the sky, the audience clamored for more (which you feel at the end of the film).”
I imagine there would be a network with multiple channels all starring a subject born on the show. If I were to place it in New York City, there would be a girl living on the Upper East Side, a boy from Harlem, a boy from Chinatown, etc.
“Since everyone is on their own channel and moving in their own circles, they are never meant to meet. But by the end of the first season, the Harlem boy and the rich girl are attracted to each other,” he continued. Andrew Niccol. “Both feel the other is acting differently than anyone they’ve ever met…”
Because, for the first time, they’ve found someone who isn’t acting! (In the second season, the Network would desperately try to end their romance).
