Tron: Ares failed to find its audience
The third part of the franchise started in 1982 and continued in 2010, Tron: Ares once again calls into question our relationship with technological progress. The film follows an artificially intelligent being sent on a mission into the real worldthus marking the first encounter between such a being and humans.
Tron: Ares has been visible in French theaters for just under two weeks, having arrived there on October 8th. As explained after its first weekend in theaters, it did a timid start at the box office. Bad news for Disney, especially because right now, its announced budget was 180 million euros. But of course, this is finally even higher.
Towards a loss of over 130 million for Disney!
Expiration assures today that instead of the 180 million previously announced, Disney paid $220 million for the production Tron: Ares ! And this without taking into account the many additional costs that bring home the total expense for the feature film $347.5 million. This means that the latter should cause a huge loss for the study. According to the American media this should amount to $132.7 million!

— Deadline (@DEADLINE) October 20, 2025
This amount will apply If Tron: Ares manages to gross 160 million dollars in the world. For now, its total revenues amount to 103 million. Its attendance in North American theaters suffered a 67% decline during its second weekend. The film therefore perhaps will not even be able to reach 160 million dollars in takings. And if he succeeds, he will still make Disney lose a (very) substantial sum.
The end of the franchise?
According to a source interviewed by Expirationthe failure of Tron: Ares It’s not really surprising. Why Disney’s gamble was risky: “The idea that Disney would spend a quarter of a million dollars on a movie directed by Jared Leto that is part of a franchise that hasn’t worked for four decades is crazy.”.
Faced with this observation, Disney has already made its decision regarding the future of the franchise. As recently reported, the big-eared studio has decided to do just that leave a mark on the future of Tron at the cinema.
