Singer criticized “eternal quest to be ‘flawless’” by citing that artist friend “told that she had a groin infection for using a girdle to ‘leave everything in place’”

Over the years, Pitty proved to be one of the great advocates of female empowerment in music – even before the subject became a trend in recent times. However, there are cases in which, according to her, women who may seem “empowered” are actually just giving in, without realizing it, to aesthetic pressures imposed by society.

The matter was addressed by Pitty in a series of posts on Twitter. In an initial message aimed at Internet users in general, the voice of “Admirable New Chip” and other hits stated:

“Two artists that I admire and think are beautiful: one, said she had a groin infection because she wore a brace to ‘leave everything in place’; the other I see photos from the tour and, I don’t know, three tights to disguise the texture of the skin. The eternal quest to be ‘flawless’ [‘impecável’]…”

Next, the artist also asked:

“What the fuck is this empowerment? What will my daughter think about being free if none of that affects the structure, only the aesthetics of the moment that serves something?”

The publication earned more than 5,000 likes and a series of comments that sought to discuss the topic in more depth. One internet user, for example, commented: “Empowerment was packaged, plasticized and sold as a liberal individualist policy, as if to empower oneself it was only necessary for a woman to act, to use this, to use that, usually with a very expensive product attached. Empowerment only exists with structural change”. In response, Pitty just agreed: “That’s it”.

“The battle is hard”

Another follower of Pitty seemed to refer to Madonna when quoting the song “Express Yourself” in a demonstration: “What about my idol from childhood and adolescence who insists on not getting old, and looks like a cartoon of herself? After spending decades denouncing pressure from the industry, he ended up giving in and ‘express yourself, be yourself’ [‘se expresse, seja você mesma’] went down the drain.” In turn, the singer presented her point of view on the situation:

“It’s sad and a little scary, and I think how lonely it must be… no one is free of that, in the end. The battle is hard.”

Another fan spoke out to say that the two women quoted by Pitty in the original message would have no power in their own actions.

“Sometimes it’s not even them, they all still answer to managers and record labels and contracts. Complicated. Sometimes there is even a contract with a clause like that, the industry is pure evil.”

The singer disagreed and revealed that they were “autonomous” women, still without revealing their names.

“They are not puppets. They are autonomous women who make their own decisions – and for that I admire them.”
