The imperturbable Tom Cruise
In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1Tom Cruise pulls off, to date, the most impressive stunt and the most dangerous of his career. Quite simply, jump on a motorcycle from a cliff face into the void, go down for a few seconds in free fall and then open the parachute. To see the sequence of the film, sandwiched between other great moments of courage, one would almost believe that it was a shooting day like any other for the actor and producer. Would we be wrong? Not really, as Tom Cruise himself explained on the microphone of Varietythat was”a normal day for him”.
(That morning) Things were pretty quiet, nothing special. A normal day for me. We wake up and I remember McQuarrie and I arriving on set that morning, as usual we talked about the story and the characters, we just kept really ordinary – well, as much as possible. We knew what we had to do. I remember arriving in the morning and the ramp was icy. Also, in the making-of, when I jump from the helicopter to test the wind, we see the team clearing the ice off the ramp. We go there calmly and confidently, without changing anything.
Tom Cruise’s detachment, however, has nothing to do with carelessness or recklessness. Indeed, this sequence of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 it was planned, repeated dozens of times. Tom Cruise did it hundreds of parachute jumps and thousands of motorcycle jumps to prepare. Therefore, on D-Day, it was perfectly prepared for the film crew to be able to roll the cameras.

Admiring Simon Pegg
Colleague and principal IMF member Simon “Benji” Pegg said he admires both Tom Cruise and unable to do what it does.
I’m highly motivated, I’m ambitious, I take my job very seriously, but I don’t carry cinema on my shoulders. I think Tom, particularly in this film, felt that way. I felt like he was dealing with some kind of existential crisis that took the form of the pandemic and he wasn’t going to let it go. I don’t know if I have what it takes to do what he does, frankly I don’t know. There’s a reason he’s the only one doing stuff like this. There is not a single active player doing what he does.
Indeed, how can you contradict Simon Pegg when Tom Cruise, at 61, continues to prove with each new film that he is the greatest action hero of his time?
