Even without counting the movie franchise that largely avoided source material it is safe to say that the resident of demons The universe is full of complications, problems with the timeline and setbacks of the canon. However, that hasn’t stopped video games from reaching the pinnacle of action horror over the years, nor has it stopped attempts to turn the zombie saga into live-action. The last iteration is The next episodic series from Netflix , which looks set to get as close to the game’s story as possible, while also introducing its own unique twists to the monstrous history of Raccoon City and the Umbrella Corporation. But with its latest trailer, resident of demons lightened up on mainstream mythology to make way for a veritable buffet of slimy, gory and sticky chaos.
As the opening trailer shows, the world essentially stalled in 2022 after a deadly virus spread across the globe and caused an apocalypse. 14 years later, Ella Balinska’s Jade Wesker has a lot to discover as she struggles to survive through her attempts to find out how her father Albert (Lance Reddick) is connected to the Umbrella Corporation and her dangerous concoction nicknamed “Joy”, as well as what happened to his sister Billie (Siena Agudong). I imagine it would be a lot easier for Jade if society hadn’t been overrun with bloodthirsty infected organisms.
And guys, is there any blood on display in the new trailer, both in a scientific sense, with the drops being studied for their alleged DNA-altering properties, and in the sense that the characters are covered up for currently unexplained reasons? We can only hope that most of it belongs to the strange creatures that circle around.
The trailer has a spooky “1950s American Dream” vibe, thanks to the Umbrella Corporation’s media approach, quaint suburban settings and all the lab work in progress. Not to mention someone apparently drinking from an Umbrella branded bottle of milk. However, I’m reluctant to consider which creature that milk came from, and it will be hard to convince myself that Lance Riddick’s character is a true villain here, as I will always inherently trust whoever I play.
Of course, the good old days, so to speak, were unaware of the huge, revolutionary worm monsters, although there were probably quite a few test mice trying to break out of their cages in those days. Probably not with the T virus running through his little veins.
The trailer features loads of awesome bursts of thrills and chills, and this includes the appearance of at least one angry dog who instantly remembers the most iconic fear from the first game. Fans can also play the game “Would you rather be attacked by a slimy spider falling from the ceiling or a slimy, veiny thing with super sharp teeth?” The answer, of course, is “anyone who gives me access to a chainsaw”. Always go with the chainsaw. Or a flamethrower, I guess.
The rear half of the trailer really speeds up the action, with Jade Wesker preparing to become one the next great science fiction heroine . It looks like you’ll be wielding a variety of weapons, similar to how things work in the video game series, and I can’t wait to see them introduce some powerful and intimidating gear as the season progresses.
resident of demons (opens in a new tab) luckily it already has a locked release date, unlike many other projects promoted during Geeked Week, and those with netflix subscriptions you can expect the premiere to arrive on Thursday 14th July. And while you wait, be sure to dive in the animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness then take a look at our Program of the first TV 2022 to see when all the other new and old shows will appear.
