The Directors Guild of Canada reaches a long-awaited deal with local American producers –

The British Columbia Directors Guild of Canada has reached an interim agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents Hollywood producers, and its local counterpart, the Canadian Association of Media Producers.

“To date, DGC BC has reached an interim agreement with AMPTP and CMPA. We will complete the language of the Memorandum of Understanding and post additional details once it is complete,” DGC BC said in a statement on the new collective agreement.

The alleged agreement ends a labor strike in and around Vancouver that began after DGC BC issued an official strike notice on April 26 to AMPTP and CMPA. That action called for strikes and picketing against any production not covered by the Safe Harbor Agreement, which is part of the BC Labor Act.

Most film and television productions in the Canadian province have signed safe harbor agreements and are therefore protected from any potential labor action as of April 26.

At the start of the labor standoff, AMPTP and CMPA warned that US producers could move films and TV series out of Vancouver after the DGC branch in British Columbia staged an official strike ahead of the strike vote.

When negotiations between DGC BC and US manufacturers were delayed until a possible deal on Wednesday, barriers to negotiations were minimum wage payments, especially for low-paying positions, payment terms for COVID tests, growth retroactive salary. The expiration of the last labor agreement and US manufacturers demand more concessions from the union.

DGC BC said the details of the alleged collective agreement will be known shortly.
