Matthew Broderick played Ferris Bueller in Living the Crazy Life – and the role marked his career
protagonist of Enjoying the Adoidado Life (1986), one of the biggest blockbusters of the 1980s, Matthew Broderick went through several perrengues over the years, especially in the 1990s, even as a globally recognized figure.
During an interview with The Guardian, Broderick explained how “difficult” it was for people to accept the roles he had after Enjoying the Adoidado Lifein which he played Ferris Bueller.
“I had good initial success. But it’s not easy to maintain that first flush,” he stated. “It’s always a tough adjustment for child actors, young actors. People see the boy from Leave It To Beaver grown up and don’t buy – they want to see the small beaver.”
“People associated me with younger roles, but I wanted them to come with me and get used to me being wrinkled. And it was difficult,” he continued. Broderick. “The 1990s were tough. Lots of ups and downs. But I always tried to keep that, keep my heart in it. I hope that keeps you in the game.”
What is my legacy? Well I’m Ferris Bueller, I suppose. I have to accept this. And I like. I made peace with it.
