Since the sixty -first edition ofAnnecy International Animation Film Festival held next week, Netflix announces new series and new animated films made in Europe and soon to be released. Each of these titles has a unique tone and language, but is general in storytelling and themes.
Included in the new movies Emberthe new film by Sergio Pablos, BAFTA winner and Academy Award nominee for Klaus; the animated musical Scrooge: A Christmas Carol with songs by acclaimed Academy Award winner Leslie Bricusse; That Christmas, based on children’s books by BAFTA award winner Richard Curtis; as well as an untitled animated film’s Steve Box, Oscar winner for Wallace & Gromit – Curse of the Were -Rabbit. As for the series, Netflix announced three new original productions: Evil Dinosaurs by Snafu Pictures at Able & Baker, Mermaid Magic by Rainbow, The Seven Bears by Folivari. To these are added Wereworld by Lime Pictures, based on the Curtis Jobling series of fantasy novels.
These projects are part of the growing offer of animated titles made in Europe, including: The Dragon of My Father Cartoon Saloon and Oscar-nominated director Nora Twomey, who will debut on Netflix in the fall; Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, an untitled project by Wallace & Gromit from beloved British animation studio Aardman, winner of four Academy Awards; a new animated Italian series for adults Zerocalcare At Captain Fall by Norwegian showrunners Jon Iver Helgaker and Jonas Torgerson.

Ember (Spain)

Featuring remake songs from legendary and two -time Academy Award winner Leslie Bricusse, Scrooge: A Christmas Carol is a show that will be sung for a new generation.

That Christmas (United Kingdom)
Synopsis: Based on the popular children’s book series by BAFTA winner and Academy Award nominee Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, Yesterday), the heartbreaking film Locksmith Animation marked the directorial debut of the acclaimed character animation and story. artist Simon Otto (Dragon Trilogy trainer). That Christmas was followed by a series of interconnected stories about love and sadness, family and friends, and Santa making a big mistake, not to mention a large number of turkeys! The producers are Nicole P. Hearon (Oceania, Frozen) and Adam Tandy (Its Thickness, Detectorists).

Steve Box animated film still has no title (France)

Mermaid Magic (Italy)

Evil Dinosaurs (UK / Spain)
Synopsis: Bad Dinosaurs is the debut animated series of Snafu Pictures, a thrilling journey into the Mesozoic, following the fun deception of a family of tyrannosaurs as they face the trials of life in the prehistoric forest, while surrounded by incompetent dinosaur. Based on a series of amazingly successful online short films created in collaboration with animation veteran Joel Veitch, the series will be produced by Able & Baker (Love Death & Robots, The Silver Dragon) and will be directed by the award -winning and Academy Award nominee Simone Giampaolo.

Wereworld (United Kingdom)
Synopsis: Based on Curtis Jobling’s books, Wereworld is an epic fantasy adventure series that follows Drew Ferran into his old age and discovers that he is the last in a long line of werewolves and the legitimate (but reluctant) ruler of a land that led by the Werelords. Drew must fight to remove the tyranny of the Lionlords and regain the throne. The series was directed by Tom Brass for Jellyfish Pictures and produced by Angelo Abela, Tim Compton, Curtis Jobling and Barry Quinn for Lime Pictures.
