Ashley Leechin Says Imitating Taylor Swift In Public Was A “Social Experiment”
look-alike of Taylor Swift admitted that pretending to be the singer in public was a “horrible” experience, TikToker Ashley Leechin recently made headlines by appearing at Los Angeles’ The Grove shopping center dressed in clothes reminiscent of Swift’s ‘Red’ era, before doing the same at Disneyland also in California.
Online criticism was directed at Leechin for his attitude, including comments such as:
“Taylor should sue them or get a restraining order against Ashley.”
On his TikTok profile, Leechin explained:
“This social experiment was to live a day in the life of a celebrity to see what would happen if I came out looking like Taylor Swift and then of all the videos you’ve seen [de ] swarming with fans, it shows how far a fandom will go […] the intention was not to be malicious [ou] make fun of anyone”.
Although she found the experience positive in certain respects and clarified that her intention was not to harm or mock anyone, Leechin described the episode as “terrible”. This was after the police were called at the time when a group broke into a wedding in Jack Antonoff, mistaking her for Taylor Swift (via NME)
“It was in no way a ‘malicious action’ and I want everyone to know that the words do not affect me,” she said on her Instagram profile.
