After Netflix canceled another show after a season, the co-creator explains why he’s not crazy

Even though Netflix has a lot of upcoming shows and movies on its list, the streaming service is still swinging the ax on cancellations. The Latest Victim is a first grade adult animated series midnight gospelbut co-creator Duncan Trussell surprisingly isn’t crazy about it.

Duncan Trussell led Twitter last week to talk about the cancellation. When the series regressed in 2020, Trussell confirmed the heartbreaking news that midnight gospel in fact, it was canceled after a season and fans were saddened as they should:

In my mind there is another season, but the “decisive” cube of conscious glass they hold in their catacombs vibrated “No more”. And it’s hard to argue with a cube.

Despite the cancellation, Duncan Trussell remains grateful for his time with Netflix. The co-creator spoke about the news on Twittershowing no trace of anger, but instead expressing gratitude that Netflix took the opportunity with him and his team:

PS: I’m so lucky that the folks at @netflix rolled the dice and allowed us to do such a weird show. They have been the supreme support at all times and I will always love them for it.

It’s never easy to cancel a show (especially the ones on Netflix), especially if it only lasts one season and not everyone on the show has had enough time to actually work on it. Duncan Trussell is as professional as ever and he only sees the bright side of things. His relationship with Netflix looks pretty good, so hopefully this isn’t the last time he creates something for them.

Although midnight gospel is one of Netflix’s best adult anime series, couldn’t escape the wrath of streamer cancellations. However, since the series first premiered two years ago, at least fans finally have an answer after all this time as to whether or not it will return. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the news fans were hoping for.

Coincidentally, news of midnight gospelThe cancellation came just before Netflix’s Geeked Week, where the streamer spends the week providing fans with new trailers, footage, preview dates and special events for upcoming Originals. I wish the animated series was part of this lineup, but it’s better to know now than later.

It will be interesting to see if Duncan Trussell presents a new series on Netflix in the future as he still has a good reputation with the platform. However, according to his website, he appears to be busy hosting a podcast and comedy tours. Maybe the next show you create will include midnight gospel Easter eggs?

midnight gospel centers on a space broadcaster that explores existential issues as it travels through beautiful worlds in a simulation universe. All eight episodes of the series are streaming on Netflix if you want to watch them in person and decide whether or not the streamer made the right decision by canceling it.
